Biography
Hannaleena Hauru (she/her) is a Finnish screenwriter and director.
Her second feature film Fucking with Nobody premiered 7 September 2020 at the 77th Venice International Film Festival as part of the Biennale College - Cinema Programme, and has continued it’s journey to the official selection on SXSW Film Festival and International Film Festival Rotterdam.
Hannaleena’s first feature Thick Lashes of Lauri Mäntyvaara was developed at Torino Film Lab and Cannes Cinefondation Residency, and premiered at Torino Film Festival 2017. Hannaleena’s short films have been premiering in Cannes Critics’ Week, Berlinale, and awarded at Oberhausen, Uppsala and Tampere Film Festivals.
Hannaleena has graduated as Master of Arts in Comparative Dramaturgy and Performance Research at University of the Arts Helsinki and Goethe Universität in Frankfurt (2021-2023). Earlier she has graduated from Aalto University, ELO Helsinki Film School in 2011 majoring in screenwriting and directing. She is known from her active participation in NISI MASA European Network of Young Cinema, and the Montreal based Kino Movement community. Before film, Hannaleena was studying theatre and drama research at Tampere University and worked as a theatre producer.
In addition to films and media art Hannaleena works as a director for Finnish television and radio drama and comedy, teaches directing and works as a dramaturg.
